2024 Governor’s Awards for Environmental Excellence
Accepting the 2024 Governor’s Awards for Environmental Excellence in Harrisburg was a great honor. In an ever-important time as we see record levels of atmospheric CO₂, the PEC and all the groups honored have many great minds advancing the methods and technology in our environmental projects.

2023 Fall tree planting and Maintenance PILOT
🌳 150 trees. That's how many bare-root native shade trees were planted at Radnor resident homes and parks this past fall. We're amazed at the ever-growing partnerships and volunteers that make all of this possible.
This past Saturday was a sight to see at Warren Filipone Park where 50 of the trees were planted as a riparian buffer to help with erosion and downstream flooding. Did you know that trees can absorb 10 and 150 gallons of water daily?
This park was also the first in our tree maintenance pilot program, where trees were de-vined, dead wooded, and invasive brush cleared. We're excited to continue this process in opportunities throughout the Township.
Special thanks to:

2023 Radnor Fall Festival
Thank you to everyone who came by our booth at the Radnor Fall Festival! We opened our fall street tree registration, volunteer registration, talked to many about trees and their benefits, and gave away a Nyssa tree (Black Gum) to whomever got the closest to guessing how many trees we planted since 2020 - 535!

2023 spring planting recap
The Radnor Township Shade Tree Commission and volunteers celebrated Earth Day and Arbor Day by planting 80 bare root native shade trees at residents' homes and Harford Park! Trees came from the Pennsylvania Horticultural Society (PHS) and support from Chanticleer.Â
Resident Plantings:
A big thank you goes to the companies who volunteered their time and expertise, planting nearly 60 trees in front of the homes of residents. These include:
Executive Tree Care
Arader Tree Service
James Gibbons Landscape
Rockwell Associates
Park Plantings:
More than 20 trees were planted at Harford Park and Warren Filipone Memorial Park. Volunteers were predominantly residents who came out in the perfect weather at Harford Park to dig, plant, stake, install tree diapers, mulch, water, and of course, install protection from deer. Volunteers included:
The Radnor ConservancyÂ
Shreiner Tree Care
Main Line School Night
Cabrini College students
A team from Hatzel and Buehler Electrical
DiBruno Brothers donated a fine morning breakfast to get folks primed.
Finally, all this wouldn't have been possible without Radnor Township’s Public Works Department and Parks & Recreation departments. The Shade Tree Commission looks forward to another bare root tree planting in November of this year. So please stay tuned!

PHS Presents Basic Tree Care: Watering
Your tree will soon be planted and it's important to water your tree weekly until the ground freezes. Apply approximately 15-20 gallons of water once a week and trickle water onto the soil surface using a hose, or allow water to seep from a bucket with small holes in the bottom.
who we are
The Radnor Township Shade Tree Commission (STC) is responsible for the protection, preservation, and growth of the township’s tree canopy. The STC reviews tree removals and various construction permits for compliance with the township’s Shade Tree Ordinance. The STC is responsible for a long-term guide for the planting of trees throughout the township. Because of these standards, Radnor has been designated as a Tree City USA community for more than 30 years.
Trees provide ecological, economic, and quality-of-life benefits—they protect our air and water quality, reduce energy costs, mitigate stormwater runoff, increase property values, and beautify our neighborhoods. Learn more about trees in Radnor below!
